A Colorado woman is grateful for the new technology that helped her reunite with her dog that had been missing for nearly three months.

Here's how it all happened.

Taylor Salazar told KRDO that Farrah, a golden retriever, was a loyal friend to her husband as he went through treatment for terminal cancer and then comforted her when he died.

Farrah disappeared when Salazar's father had a seizure while driving and crashed. The dog ran from the crash scene, which was located in a rural area relatively far from her home.

Salazar never gave up hope that Farrah was still out there, and for good reason. Aside from people telling her they had seen Farrah, surveillance footage captured her drinking water near some farmland.

"And if they got too close, she'd run away and she knew where to go. She was hiding," Salazar said.

An idea from a dispatcher with the Fremont County Sheriff's Office helped move things along.

Using an infrared drone that was being used for training, the office was able to fly it in the area Farrah was being sighted.

The mission was successful and Salazar was able to reunite with her furry companion.

"And she stuck her head through the barbed wire fence and then the next minute she's laying in my lap and I was like, I got her," Salazar said.

Salazar said she's glad Farrah is home and believes her late husband played a part in their reunion.

Farrah has some obstacles to overcome now that she's home, though.

During the last three months that she's been out on her own, she's lost about half of her body weight and one of her legs needs to be amputated.
