The telephoto (zoom) camera is one of the biggest selling points of Samsung’s “Ultra” models. The Galaxy S22 Ultra features a telephoto camera that provides 10x optical zoom. If you were hoping that its successor would bring a major upgrade, you might want to sit down.

A new report claims that Samsung is going to stick with the 10-megapixel, 10x optical zoom telephoto camera for the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The company clearly feels that if something isn’t broken, there’s no need to fix it.

The folks at GalaxyClub hear that the basic specs of the Galaxy S23 Ultra telephoto camera will be exactly the same as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It’s possible that Samsung could improve the senor in other ways with better optics and related advancements, but the resolution and maximum optical zoom will remain at 10-megapixels and 10x respectively.

Since these models do feature another telephoto camera, it’s unclear what the specifics are for the second zoom sensor. Perhaps it will remain at 10-megapixel resolution and 3x optical zoom as well. A recent report had indicated that the regular Galaxy S23 will feature this camera. Since the entire Galaxy S22 series had this sensor, one could assume that this will be the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s second telephoto sensor.

No information is available about the other Galaxy S23 Ultra camera sensors at this point in time. There have been some rumors that its primary sensor will tout a massive 200-megapixel resolution. Samsung is far from giving up these ultra-high resolution sensors, so that remains within the realm of possibility.

We still have a long way to go before the Galaxy S23 Ultra hits the market. Expect this flagship device to arrive early next year.
